A Backyard Transformed: Compliance, Craftsmanship & a Sophisticated New Look in Balgowlah Heights

Sometimes the most impressive pool renovations aren’t about retiling or resurfacing the waterline – they’re about everything around the pool.

The recent transformation at 52A Woodland Street, Balgowlah Heights is the perfect example of how Bella Pools turns tricky, multi-layered projects into stunning, seamless results.

A compliance challenge became the foundation for a beautifully crafted backyard pool transformation.

A Beautiful Feature Wall… That Didn’t Meet Regulations

The pool at this property had a feature wall running the full length of the pool, rising into an arched shape in the centre. It looked great — but unfortunately, its height meant the pool no longer complied with safety regulations.

To bring the pool area back up to standard, our team cut out the entire arched section.
It might sound simple, but removing that arch meant cutting through close to two tonnes of concrete using a demo saw. Once levelled, the structure behind the pool was finally ready for its makeover.

Rebuilding the Space With Precision

With the compliance issue solved, the real transformation began.

Working alongside Ash and his skilled team at East Coast Tiling, we:

  • Rendered the newly levelled brick wall
  • Screeded over the existing terracotta pavers
  • Removed any drummy or loose sections
  • Prepared the entire area for brand-new stonework

The homeowners had selected beautiful travertine pavers — 30mm for the coping and 15mm for the surrounding paved area — and we repaved the entire pool zone using their chosen materials.

The result? A clean, elegant, modern finish that completely lifted the backyard’s atmosphere.

A New Pool Fence to Complete the Space

Because the owners were preparing the property for sale, they needed to ensure full compliance – including a fully certified pool fence.

We installed a frameless glass fence with sleek black spigots around the entire perimeter, continuing up to the boundary wall behind the pool.

Across the front edge, the gate was set on a 45-degree angle – a smart design choice that maximised the usable outdoor area and kept the flow of the backyard open and unobstructed.

This new fence didn’t just tick the compliance box.

It finished the renovation, bringing a luxurious, modern look that elevated the entire outdoor space.

A Key Selling Point for the Home

The final photos speak for themselves. The travertine, the glass fence, the newly rendered wall – everything came together beautifully. So beautifully, in fact, that the real estate agent made the pool image the hero shot for the property’s marketing campaign:

  • It’s the first photo you see on realestate.com.au It’s front and centre on the property’s signage
  • It quickly became the standout feature highlighting the home’s value
  • That’s the power of a well-executed pool renovation – even when you’re not renovating the pool interior itself.
